Lopsided Loss for Baseball

The Cougars ran into a buzz saw in Colorado Mesa on Saturday afternoon as they were defeated by a lopsided final score of 25-7. The loss drops their record to 9-32 overall, and 4-24 in conference play.

Colorado Christian jumped on the board first today as they scored one run in the second inning from a double by Jack Nelson which scored Ben Gooch who had singled earlier in the inning. Mesa took the lead back after scoring two runs in their half of the second inning, but CCU took it back in the third as they were able to score two more runs highlighted by an RBI triple from Jerry Gallegos. Unfortunately, from that point on it was all Mavericks. They scored seven runs in both the third and fourth innings, then scored another six runs in the seventh inning to finish off their scoring on the day. When all the dust had settled, the Mavericks walked away with the 25-8 victory.

Offensively, the Cougars had ten hits in the game, and three players had multiple hits. Jerry Gallegos finished 2-3 with a triple and an RBI. Dakota Bayles also had a good game coming off of the bench as he finished 2-2 with two RBI and was also hit by a pitch. Jack Nelson rounded out the top offensive performers for the day as he went 2-4 with a double and one RBI.

CCU will be looking to bounce back on Sunday as they will play Colorado Mesa for the third and final game in the series. First pitch for the game will be at 12PM MST.
