CCU took the field on Sunday afternoon looking to salvage one game in their three game series against Colorado Mesa University. Unfortunately they were not able to as Mesa finished off the series sweep by defeating the Cougars by a final score of 15-4. CMU had an offensive explosion in the final two games of the series which made it difficult for Colorado Christian as they scored 40 runs in the final two games of the series.
Â
The Mavericks scored early and often in the game as they scored in each of the first four innings, and by the end of the fourth had built themselves a 13-0 lead over Colorado Christian. Despite the game being one-sided from the start, the Cougars never gave up and continued to claw and scratch to get back into the game. CCU got onto the scoreboard for the first time in the fifth inning when
Branden Amenta singled through the right side which brought in
Bryce Brenton who had reached earlier in the inning.
Pete McWilliams was responsible for the other three runs for the Cougars in the game as he came up with the bases loaded in the seventh inning and promptly unloaded them as he belted a double down the right field line which brought all three runners in.
Â
CCU was led offensively on the day by
Pete McWilliams who finished the game 2-4 with two doubles and three RBI.
Â
The team will return home next week as they host a series against Colorado School of Mines. First pitch for the game on Friday April 29
th is scheduled for 12PM at All Star Park in Lakewood, CO.
