Baseball Handed Tough Loss in Extra Innings

Colorado Christian made the short commute on Friday to begin a four game series against Regis University. The Cougars suffered a tough loss on the day, as they saw a five run lead turn into an extra inning defeat as Regis won by a final score of 8-7 in 12 innings. The loss drops their record on the year to 8-26 overall, and 3-18 in conference play.

Ryan Erazo got the nod in the opening game of the series and did everything he could to put the team in position to win the game. Erazo gave up a run in the first inning, but then was able to keep the Rangers off the board for the following six innings. He allowed only the one run in his seven innings of work while striking out four.

A Branden Amenta single up the middle in the third inning got the Cougars on the board and tied the game up 1-1. CCU took their first lead of the game in the sixth inning as Austin Atkerson hustled home and scored on an error by the third baseman. They then added three runs to that lead in the seventh inning which was highlighted by a two run homerun to left field off the bat of Pete McWilliams. It was McWilliams' fourth homerun of the year, and his third in the last three games. At the end of seven innings, CCU had a 5-1 lead. Regis got one back in the eighth inning, but Colorado Christian answered back with two of their own in the ninth inning to give them a 7-2 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth.

Regis scored five runs with two outs in the ninth which tied the game up and sent it into extra innings. After neither team was able to score in the 10th or 11th innings, Regis ended the game in the 12th with a single which scored the winning run. It was a tough loss for CCU, as they were one out away from earning their ninth win of the year, and taking the first game in the four game series with Regis.

The team will be back in action on Saturday, as they will be back at Regis to play a doubleheader. First pitch for the game is scheduled for 12PM MST.
