Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Cougars Thrive from Tiger Errors

The CCU Women's Volleyball team scheduled a non-conference game mid-season vs the Fort Hays State Tigers. They swept FHSU in three on the Cougar Court 25-23, 25-22, 25-20.

It was a significant win for CCU because Fort Hays had only two losses on the year (13-2), which were from two nationally ranked teams, Nebraska-Kearny (#3) and Washburn (#18). One might say the Cougs doomed them their third loss, but from the stats, it's apparent the Tigers doomed themselves.

Fort Hays totaled 29 errors in three sets, which made them completely ineffective on offense. Their team attack percentage was .099%, with four service errors. FHSU is a talented squad putting up impressive numbers this season, but against the Cougars they struggled to compete, and some key players were shut down.

Colo. Christian was very consistent in every area of play. They hit .198% with 39 kills and seven total team blocks. From the service line and in the back row, the Cougars thrived against Hays totaling three aces and 59 digs. Christian ran a fast pace offense, working the middle of the court well, and they ran a very strategic offense that resulted in a mass of points.

 Stat Leaders:
Right side #5, Sophia Proano led blue and gold with 12 kills, followed by middle blocker #16, Angela Jurek, who had eight kills and no errors. Setter #18 made an impact on offense with three kills of her own, and 31 assists. On defense, #17 Mariela Gonzalez sported the libero jersey and put up 22 digs.

Head Coach Andria Harshman was ecstatic about the outcome of the game and stated:

"Our defense and serving were able to take them out of their comfort zone and create a lot of pressure. The team is playing well against every level of competition and that bodes well for our upcoming conference schedule."
