Colorado Christian took to their home field looking to come away with the victory against Wayne State College. The stingy Wildcat defense proved to be too much to overcome as the Cougs were defeated by a final score of 1-0.
Â
A defensive chess match took place for much of the first half until an error by the CCU defense led to the first, and only goal of the game. A pass was centered near the top of the box. A failed attempt to clear the ball led to Wayne State firing a shot past Cougar keeper
Mallory VanVoorhis with just under five minutes remaining in the half.
Â
CCU had a couple of good scoring chances in the second half as
Kielli Jordan and
Mollie Monson each had decent attempts, but they were unable to net the equalizer.
Â
On a positive note, sophomore
Kielli Jordan was named the RMAC offensive player of the week for her efforts during the opening week of the season. Heading into play today, Jordan leads all players in the RMAC with five points (two goals, one assist).
Â
The team will now travel to California on the weekend to play two games. The first game of the road trip is on Friday September 9
th, at 3:30PM as they will be taking on Biola University in La Mirada, CA.
