CCU Basketball won their game against Western State 73-50. The Lady Cougs came out ready to play on Friday night vs the Mountaineers. The start of the game was all CCU. CCU scoring, rebounding, making plays and buckets. They hustled on all out defense, stopping the Mountaineers from scoring on the outside. After the first quarter Christian led 16-9.
Â
In the seventh minute of the second quarter Western State made a convincing comeback scoring four three pointers in a row. This took Western from a 12 point deficient to only two points between them and the Cougs at 23-21. The talented Cougar squad broke the streak with an easy bucket preventing Western from getting any closer. Â The Cougars went into the locker room up 34-26.
Â
Christian stayed up the rest of the game scoring 19-12 in the third and 20-12 in the final quarter. Western's perimeter focused game had spurts of greatness, but could not catch fire to keep up with blue and gold. Notching her fourth double-double this season (third in a row) was CCU's #33
Mikala Gordon who had 11 rebounds and 14 points for the Cougs.
Alex Nelson was the high scorer on the night for both teams with 16 points and seven rebounds.
Leisha Crawford had six assists and nine points off the bench, and
Haley Shaner really showed her skill scoring nine points and clocking only eight minutes.

Head Coach
Corey Laster remarked:
Â
"I have been really happy with our team effort lately, and the fact that we are understanding what it takes to win. Our hindering factor in the beginning of season was injury, and now that we are past that, are proving to be consistent. We had a good week of practice. The second half was good for us against Western. Mikala's hustle was strong tonight and was a big reason we won the 50/50 ball a majority of the game. Leisha came off the bench and made solid plays. Kaitlyn's length and athleticism is so beneficial for us. She did a great job at the top of the zone on defense. She really disrupted Western's offensive flow. When we have multiple players scoring, we win and tonight we had a great team win."
