The Lady Cougars won their last conference game of the season vs Chadron State College in three sets 25-21, 25-21, and 25-15. They were very similar scores to their game earlier a couple of weeks ago when blue and gold was able to defeat the Eagles on their home court 25-21, 25-20, and 25-12. CCU will head into the RMAC Tournament 17-10 overall and 14-4 in conference.
It was a clean and consistent match from the Cougars. Chadron was a good team that put the pressure on, but only periodically when their big outside hitter #22 Gaby Varela was up front. The two teams were completely opposite as Chadron had one dominant player, and CCU spread out their points among everyone.
In the front row,
Jacey Johnson (OH),
Sophia Proano (OPP),
Marilyn Suarez (OH), and
Hope Baldrica (MH) all hit in the .200s with Suarez leading in kills with 12.
Jacey Johnson had a double double on the night with 11 kills and 12 digs. Setter
Kylee Wurster showed-off with four kills, no errors at .500% and 37 assists, with 11 digs. Libero
Mariela Gonzalez totaled 19 digs in left back and DS
Abigail Bartalo had 14 ups in right back.
CCU's block was strong like usual. They doubled the Eagles in blocks with eight. CCU hit .240% as a team and the Eagles hit .074%. Coach
Bobby Blanken stated that set three was the best set they had played all season long. It was full of confidence and control.
The confident and controlled Cougar squad will head into the RMAC Tournament starting Tuesday, Nov. 14
