Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

CCU Trampled by Lancers in Riveside

The Cougars finished their California roadtrip on Wednesday, November 15th, with a game against the 14th ranked Lancers from California Baptist University in Riverside, California. The Cougars were still seeking their first win for the season and hoping to make it a splashy one against a ranked opponent.

The Lancers started the game in a manner expected from a highly ranked team, scoring the first dozen points on the night before the Cougars managed to score their first. Both teams were focused on spreading the ball, as they each had seven players make it onto the scoresheet in the first half.

Picking up where he left off the night before was sophomore Marcus Fager who scored the Cougars four points to get them going before getting into some early foul trouble and having to sit for most of the first 20 minutes. He would finish the game with eight points and a pair of rebounds.

Bursting onto the scene for CCU was junior Terry McFadden whose previous high for points this season was seven, had 10 in the first half, including a monstrous fast break dunk in the final few minutes of the first half to bring the Cougars within 10. He would finish the game with the same point total, three rebounds, and four assists.

Even though this was easily CCU's best first half of the season so far, when the final buzzer sounded for halftime, the Cougars still trailed by a dozen.

The second half saw a more determined and focused Lancer side, as they opened the second half on a 17-5 run, eventually building a lead of 40 at one point. While the Lancers went 23-24 from the charity stripe during the game, the Cougars wouldn't be granted their first free throws until there were five minutes left in the game. They would eventually go 6-7 from the free throw line.

It was junior Stefan Hackethal who would end the night as the Cougars highest scorer. After dropping five points in the first half, he would add another eight in the second half to total 13 for the night.

Despite knocking down an impressive 42% of their field goals and 42% of their three point attempts, the Cougars couldn't keep pace with the Lancers after allowing them to shoot an astonishing 64% from the field.

The Cougars will be back in Colorado, but in Golden for their next two games. They will take on the Threshers of Bethel College at 1:00 p.m. on November 24th.
