Taking the floor just a day after Thanksgiving, Women's Basketball played the Cardinals of William Jewell College. Despite their strong efforts, the Cougars came up short and took their third loss of the season with a final score of 71-66. The game was hosted just down the road by Metro State at 3pm.
The game remained close, as the Cougars only trailed by three coming into the second and fourth quarters. The Cardinals kept the lead most of the game, only letting CCU take it twice. The Cardinals aggressive offense put the Cougars in foul trouble, and even managed to foul two players out.
Leading the Cougars in points with fourteen a piece was senior
Alex Nelson and freshman Brookelyn Hurlbut. Hurlbut also lead the team in rebounds bringing in eight. Another player in the double digit point range was freshman Sarah McGinley with eleven.
Although CCU was a little rusty after a couple weeks off from games, they have a promising season ahead. Thanks to the Cougars deep bench, over a quarter of their points came from subs. With aggressive play and a high free throw percentage a lot of essential points will be earned from the charity stripe.
The Cougars play their second game of the Holiday Inn Denver Cherry Creek Classic hosted by Metro State on Saturday the 25th, at 3pm against the Beavers of Bemidji State University.
