Coming into their last preseason game with fire, CCU Women's Basketball defeated the Falcons of the Air Force Academy, a Division I program. The final score was 68-66.
At the end of the first quarter, CCU led by four with a score of 17-13. However the Falcons took advantage of the Cougar turnovers and came back to lead by one going into halftime, 37-36. Throughout the first half, the score changed a total of nine times. The Cougars had fifteen turnovers, and the Falcons had nine.
Playing a more crisp game coming in to the second half, the Cougars were able to take back the lead near the end of the third to finish the quarter with a six point lead, 56-50.
The fourth quarter saw CCU maintaining the lead, and finishing out despite the pressure from the close game. The Falcons called a timeout when they were down by two, 66-68 with twelve seconds left but were unable to score again.
Jordan Baer was a key player in the Cougar victory, bringing in a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. She also had the first four points of the game. Two other Cougars made it into the double digits,
Alex Nelson scoring 16 and
Sarah McGinley scoring 14.
The Falcons bench played a large role on the court, scoring a total of 19 points to the Cougars 13. Foul count was almost even, CCU giving 18 and AFA giving 16. The Cougars outrebounded the Falcons 42-27, which was a key component to the victory.
The win puts CCU 2-3 in preseason. The Cougars next game will be their first of conference play, hosted by Regis University at 1:30pm, on Saturday, December 2
nd. The Rangers are currently 1-4 after preseason play, and are predicted to finish third in conference.
