Hitting the court for their first game of the season, CCU Women's Basketball traveled to Boulder to take the floor against Colorado University.
Going in to the second half of the game, the Cougars had a three point lead with a score of 36-33. However the Buffs came back and incorporated their full court press to put the pressure on, and win by forty five with a score of 90-55.
After coming off the bench freshman Sarah McGinley lead the Cougars in points scored and rebounds, bringing in fourteen and nine respectively. Not far behind was senior
Haley Shaner, with nine points and six rebounds. Shaner also went 2-2 from the three point line.
This year the Cougars roster has seven returners and eleven new players. Nine of them are freshman, and two are junior transfers. Coming back with more new players than old brings a brand new dynamic to the program which has the team excited for what is to come. With only two seniors leading the team it will be another year of battling in the RMAC. After placing tenth last year, the preseason coaches poll predicted them to place tenth again in conference but the team is determined to rise above.
To officially start their season, CCU will take to the road to play in the Arkansas Fort Smith Conference Challenge, playing St. Edwards University and University of Arkansas Fort Smith. With only five games in preseason to prepare the Cougars for conference, conference play will begin on the first of December. With eleven home conference games this season and nine away, the Cougars hope to use the home court to their advantage.
The first home game will be played on December 8th, against the Hardrockers of South Dakota School of Mines at 5pm.
