CCU was defeated by the Metro State Roadrunner's Sunday afternoon 76-56. Colorado Christian Men's Basketball was coming off back-to-back wins against UCCS and Black Hills State University and were taking on Metro State in an effort to make it three in a row. The Roadrunners were coming off an impressive win themselves, having beaten Colorado School of Mines, the #6 team in NCAA Division II, the night before in Golden. The Cougars came into today's contest with a record of 3-8 (2-3 RMAC) as the Roadrunners sported a record of 5-6 (4-1 RMAC).
Â
The Roadrunners came out with speed and strength, feeding their big men underneath the basket early and often. The Cougars were quick to respond with their strength though, draining three 3-pointers in a row to go up 11-6 in the first five minutes.
Â
Team foul trouble would slow the Cougars roll and eventually allow Metro State to retake the lead late in the first half. With three and a half minutes to go, the Roadrunners led 27-22, and try as they might to close the gap, CCU would be matched shot for shot in the final minutes and trail Metro State 34-26 at halftime.
Â
After a few quiet games relative to how his season started,
Stefan Hackethal regained his dominant ways in the first half building an all-around stat line of eight points, four rebounds, and two assists.
Jeremiah Hanson, who was coming off a 26 point game the night before against UCCS, kept up his scoring run and dropped in 9 points to lead the Cougars at halftime.
The Cougs were not able to gain any of the momentum as they headed into the second half. Â The Roadrunners on the other hand tallied a 16-point lead 44-28 within the first three minutes.Â
Jeremiah Hanson continued to lead blue and gold, and his brother
Isaiah Hanson came-through in the final minutes as well. Unfortunately their 17 points each weren't enough to close the gap.  Metro gained 20 points on CCU and kept it there until the final score 76-56. Â
The Cougars will head into Christmas break and be back on Dec. 29th at Adams State University.Â
