CCU Women's Basketball took to the road to play the Grizzlies of Adams State University on Friday, December 29
th, at 5:30pm. The Cougars played strong and finished 2017 taking a win over Adams, with a score of 59-55.
Â
Due to technical difficulties, the Grizzlies table was given a technical foul before the game officially started. This gave the Cougars a couple of free throws, which resulted in a one-point advantage before tip-off.
Â
Overall the Cougars had a strong first half, which ultimately allowed them to take the win. CCU led after the first quarter 16-9. In the second quarter, the Cougs scored 20 points and held ASU to 9 points again, making the score at halftime 36-18.
Â
The Grizzlies came in to the second half with fire, and at one point diminished the Cougar lead to only 6 points. ASU outscored CCU by ten points, 23 to 13, but still trailed to the Cougars going into the fourth quarter. The score at the end of the third quarter was 49-41.
Â
Maintaining their momentum, Adams hit a three pointer right off the bat in the fourth quarter to make it a five-point ball game. Taking advantage of the Cougars turnovers, the Grizzlies were able to make it a three-point ball game with fewer than two minutes left, and in the final minute it was shortened to a two-point lead to keep things exciting. Despite the Grizzlies strong efforts, CCU was able to prevail and win by four due to a pair of free throws in the final seconds of play by
Jordan Baer to seal the game. ASU scored 14 in the fourth and the Cougars scored 10.
Â
The Cougars offense was spread fairly even, with four players in the double-digit point range.
Jordan Baer lead with 15, followed by

Madison Price tied with 11 points apiece, and
Sarah Holt brought in 10. Leading the team in rebounds, McGinley and Price tied again with 8 each.
Â
The win gives the Cougars a record of 2-5 in conference, and 4-8 overall. The next game will be hosted in Lakewood, CO on January 4
th at 5pm against Westminster College.Â
