The CCU Men's Basketball team hosted their first home RMAC game of the season on Friday, December 8
th, against the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology Hardrockers. The Hardrockers came into the game sporting a 3-3 record, including 1-1 in conference. The Cougars started the night with a 1-7 overall record, and looking for their first RMAC win of the season after falling to 0-2 in conference play.
The first half started off slowly for the Cougars, falling behind 14-5 in the first six minutes. After a quick timeout, the Cougars came roaring back into the game on the back of a 12-0 run. The streak was started with a simple layup by
Marcus Fager, bolstered by eight straight points by
Jeremiah Hanson, including back-to-back 3-pointers, and topped off by a smooth finger roll by
Stefan Hackethal.
The halftime lead was owned by the Hardrockers who ended the first half on a 10-2 run giving them a 42-33 lead.
The second half saw the Cougars make multiple runs at a comeback just to fall a little short each time. The Cougars came within four points of the lead multiple times as the half played on, but they were never quite able close out a run.
The Cougars would eventually fall by a final score of 77-64, a score that was inflated due to a string of SDSMT free throws at the end. The Hardrockers improved to 2-1 in the RMAC, while the Cougars fell to 0-3. CCU will play again on Saturday, December 9
th, when they host the Yellowjackets of Black Hills State University of 7:00 p.m.
