Baseball Sweeps the Day

Colorado Christian traveled back to Oklahoma on Friday afternoon where they began a three game series with Oklahoma Panhandle University. The Cougs took care of business in game one by a final score of 7-1, then capped off the sweep in the second game winning by a final of 8-6. CCU has played five games in Oklahoma this year, and have compiled a 4-1 record in those games.

Game One:
Joey Loranger got the start for the Cougs in the first game and picked up his first win of the season as he tossed five solid innings holding the Aggies to just two hits and one run, while striking out five. Alex Ginn and Brad Benson each tossed a scoreless inning in relief without allowing any hits.

Luke Bote was the offensive player of the game as he went 2-2 with two doubles, three RBI and one run scored. Bote also drew a walk in the game, and had a stolen base. Jerry Gallegos also had two hits in the game while also scoring one run.

Game Two:
The second game of the doubleheader proved to be an offensive battle, as each team were able to get on the board early. The Aggies tool control early as they scored three runs in the first inning to take the early lead. CCU responded by scoring three in the second inning to tie things up. The Cougs kept things going as they scored two more in the third to regain control. They were able to add onto their lead in both the fourth and fifth innings, and when all was said and done Christian had scored eight unanswered runs to take an 8-3 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth. Panhandle tightened things up in the fifth as they scored three runs to cut the Cougar lead down to just two at 8-6. However that was as close as they would get, as the CCU bullpen slammed the door shut and held onto the lead and sealed their sixth victory of the year.

The CCU offense combined for 11 hits in the game, led by Dillon Mctague who finished the game going 3-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Brandon Hesselberg, Luke Bote, Austin Atkerson, and Dakota Bayles each had two hits in the game as well.

Evan Fink picked up his third win of the season, and Jarrod Rivera picked up his first save of the season. Once again the Cougs bullpen was fantastic as they combined to throw three innings allowing no hits and no runs.

With the sweep, CCU now has a 6-7 record on the year. They will be back in action Saturday morning as they go for the sweep against the Aggies. Game time is set for 11AM MST.
