CCU Softball split in their last two games with New Mexico Highlands University on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars won the early game 2-1, and then barely missed the victory in game two being downed 13-11.
Â
The Lady Cougs had ten hits and two runs in the first game. Freshman, #20
Sarah Probasco started for the Cougs and took the win 2-3 allowing only four hits, with two strikeouts in 4.1 innings. We saw an appearance from

Game two looked a lot different, with a lot more action. CCU had 11 hits, while NMHU had 12. Both teams shockingly had a ton of errors as well. Christian made six and the Cowgirls had five. It all came down to the plate.
Â
Highlands started it off with one run in the second from a walk (unearned). And then the Cougs retaliated with two runs in the third, but N.M. absolutely crushed the bottom of the third frame, scoring eight runs and making the score 9-2. Highlands cored three more in the fifth inning and then their last run in the sixth. CCU would go on to score five more runs in the fifth, and four in the top of seventh falling short by just two runs 13-11.
Â
CCU's pitching game struggled in game two.
Kenzie Mattey started for the Cougs and took the loss (5-4).
Kelsea Sweeney,
Tana Feiner, and
Sarah Probasco all threw in the game, but no one could catch fire. CCU's pitching team had four strikeouts, while New Mexico only had two.
Â
Christian's second baseman,
Baylee Johnson hit 3-4 with two runs and three RBI's. Johnson hit a double and a home run. Another standout player was Haley Novacek who went 3-3 with two runs and three RBI's.
