CCU Women's Basketball took on the #22 Regis University on Saturday night. The Cougs played an amazing three quarters, but ended up losing 65-59 in the final ten minutes of play.
Colorado Christian's execution to the hoop was clean and consistent as the Cougars outshot the Rangers in the first half 38% to RU's 27%. It was a low scoring two quarters with CCU coming out on top 27-24. The Rangers struggled big time on offense going 9-33 FG, and 2-12 3FG. It looked good for blue and gold going into the second, but they knew that the ranked Regis Rangers had more than what they were showing.
The Lady Cougs stayed up on Regis throughout the third quarter until the final minute where RU tied it up 39-39 to go into the fourth. It was back and forth between the two teams. CCU would make a layup, and then so would Regis. It wasn't until half way through the fourth that Regis banked two three pointers in a row to spread the gap 49-44. The Cougs could not catch up after that and the rest of Regis' points came from free throws.
The Rangers capitalized at the right time in the game, and played great defense with 11 second chance points. CCU was beat 65-59. Despite the fourth quarter let down, Christian outshot RU from three and the line, with six less turnovers, and eight steals. RU outrebound the Cougs by 10 51-41.
Colo. Christian's
Alex Nelson had a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Mikala Gordon scored the game high of 20 points, and
Claire Paxton had 10 with seven rebounds.
The Cougs will be at Colorado School of Mines on February 11
th. Tip-off is set for 1:00 PM.
