CCU Softball dropped their midweek game against Lubbock Christian University 2-0. The Cougars and Chaparrals were evenly matched on the mound and in the field. The 6-0 Lubbock Chaparrals were able to limit the Cougs to only one hit and a .048 batting average, with six strike-outs.
Â
The solo hack for CCU was by
Charlotte Romero in the top of the third frame.
Hanna Farmer got on base by being hit, then stole second. Romero stepped up to the plate with two outs, and singled allowing Farmer to make it to third base.
Letty Valenzuela was up to bat and hit into a double play to get Farmer out. This was one of the many incredible putouts LCU had in the game.
Â
CCU's starting pitcher,
Kenzie Mattey threw three innings and 96 pitches, with four hits, and two runs. Mattey struck out three and took the loss (1-1).
Kelsea Sweeney closed the last three innings striking out three and allowing one hit.

Head coach
Shanon Hays commented:
Â
"I was really proud of the way our girls battled today against a top team in tough conditions. We could have easily won 2-0. Kenzie didn't have her best stuff, but still threw well. Kelsea Came in and dominated. I tip my hat to LCU. They made some super defensive plays to keep us off the board. I feel like we are improving every day we've been out here."
Â
Fun Fact:
Head coach
Shanon Hays played his brother, Daren Hays in today's game. Daren Hays has been the head coach at LCU for five years.
The Cougars play in the North Texas Softball Bash February 10th-12th.
