CCU Softball took two tough losses on Friday afternoon to Metro State University. The Cougars were beat 6-2 in the first game and 6-5 in the second.
Â
There wasn't anything special in the games. Metro played clean and pitched well. The Cougs had five hits in the first game, and two runs.
Charlotte Romero scored the first run off a
Baylee Johnson single down the right field line, and
Shelbie Day scored the second run off a
Charlotte Romero ground out to second base. CCU Ace,
Kelsea Sweeney took her first loss of the season 9-1. Sweeney threw 4.2 innings and gave up six hits and four runs, two of which were earned.
Tana Feiner and
Sarah Probasco both took the mound after Sweeney.
Â
No two games are the same in a double header, and this second one had a lot more action. The Cougs scored all five of their runs by the third inning. Metro looked a little bit shaky on defense this game as the Cougs scored off an error by their second baseman and on a passed ball by the catcher.
Hanna Farmer scored the first run in the first inning. Then in the second
Jennie Winston scored off the error. The third had a two RBI double from
Amy Edison running in
Hailey Riesenmy and
Letty Valenzuela. Then
Baylee Johnson scored of the passed ball also in the third. The score was 5-0 CCU.
Â
The Roadrunners made a huge comeback starting in the bottom of the third inning. They scored one in the third, three in the fourth, and then two more in the bottom of the fifth to give them the lead 6-5. CCU bats were still swinging well, but Metro was on a roll and could not be stopped. It was double after double that scored the runs, and Sweeney once again took the loss, her second consecutive of the season 9-2.
Â
CCU will play another double header tomorrow, Sat. March 18
th at MSUD. Games are set for 12:00 & 2:00 PM.
