Colorado Christian was in action for a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon against Regis University. Regis used a strong offensive performance to get by the Cougs in both games, as CCU went down by a 10-7 final score in game one, and lost the second game 22-4.
Â
Game One:
It has been the story of the year so far for the Cougars as they got off to another slow start in game one. They allowed Regis to jump out in front 7-0 after just two and a half innings of play.
Â
Cooper Gray started the Cougar comeback attempt in the bottom of the third inning after Gray drove a ball over the center fielder's head for a double which allowed
Kaleb Johnson to score. The Cougs continued their rally in the fourth inning when
Mikale Doherty drove in
Austin Maltby with a single.
Jerry Gallegos provided the power in the fifth inning as he blasted a two run homerun over the wall in right field, which brought the Cougs to within three at 7-4.
Â
After Regis scored twice in the sixth to make it 9-4, CCU once again battled back. In their half of the sixth, Christian worked the bases loaded.
Jerry Gallegos drove in the first run with a walk, and then
Alex Ginn came up with a single to score two runs, and bring the Cougs within two runs 9-7. Unfortunately, that was as close as they would get, as Regis scored once in the seventh, then held CCU to finish off the 10-7 victory over blue and gold.
Â
Game Two:
It was another slow start as the Rangers were able to once again jump out in front early. Regis scored 10 runs in the first four innings to net them an early double digit cushion. The Cougs tried to get back into it in the bottom of the fourth, when they took advantage of a miscue by Regis to score two runs.
Â
Regis refused to let CCU hang around, as they went on to score 11 runs in the fifth inning which put the game out of reach for the Cougs.
Â
Both teams will be back in action Sunday afternoon at All Star Park in Lakewood. It will be the last game of a four game series with Regis. First pitch is scheduled for 2PM MST. Â Â
