Colorado Christian Softball crushed game three in their series vs Fort Lewis College. Sunday morning was beautiful in Lakewood, CO and the Cougs came out and run-ruled the Skyhawks 8-0 in five innings. CCU also won the fourth game of the series 6-5, but barely pulled it off in the end.
Â
Game 1
Â
The Cougars had 10 hits, with three home runs, a double, and a single that scored runs.
Letty Valenzuela homered to left field in the first inning, getting two RBI's and running in
Charlotte Romero.
Stephanie Day homered to left field in the third, getting two RBI's, and running in
Hanna Farmer. Then, in the fourth frame CCU catcher
Amy Edison homered to center field earning a single RBI. CCU led 5-0 in the fourth and scored one more run in the inning from another
Stephanie Day single to left field that gave her two more RBI's, and allowed
Shelbie Day and
Jennie Winston to score. The Cougar's shortstop,
Stephanie Day ended the game with four RBI's, hitting 2-3 with one run.
Â
CCU first baseman,
Jennie Winston ended the game early by smacking one down the left field line, which let
Amy Edison score from first. The game ended 8-0 in the fifth inning.
Â
Game 2
Â
The fourth and final game of the series was by far the most exciting. The Skyhawks had the first run of the game in the top of the second inning. But CCU capitalized off the Skyhawks errors and scored one in the bottom of the second and two more in the third.
Â
Fort Lewis struggled from the mound allowing the Cougs to get three more runs in the fourth making the score 6-1. The Skyhawks threw five pitchers against blue and gold, and the Cougs threw three pitchers.
Kelsea Sweeney started for CCU, and threw the first three innings.
Sarah Probasco took the mound in the top of the fourth, but then
Tana Feiner replaced her after Fort Lewis scored three runs in the fifth inning. Probasco came back in in the top of the 6
th, but after giving up a home run, Sweeney closed the game. Sweeney grabbed her ninth win of the season (9-0), throwing five innings, allowing five hits and one unearned run. Probasco struck out three Skyhawks in 1.2 innings.
Â
So after the fifth inning the score was 6-4 CCU. Fort Lewis still had two more frames to make a comeback. They homered in the sixth, which made it a one run game. In the seventh they were able to put a runner on third with only one out. Their next batter stepped up to the plate and hit a ground ball to CCU shortstop
Stephanie Day. St. Day fielded the ball perfectly and threw it to
Amy Edison at the plate to get the runner out at home and keep the lead 6-5. The game ended in the top of the seventh with a strikeout by
Kelsea Sweeney. Colorado Christian had six hits in game four, and the Skyhawks totaled nine.

Head Coach
Shanon Hays stated:
Â
"I was really proud of our girls this weekend. Kenzie was out sick and our staff really stepped up. Kelsea was a workhorse, and instrumental in all four games. Our defense was really good behind her and everybody chipped in on offense. Hanna and Steph were great up at the top of the order, and we got good production from the bottom as well. Good weekend for the Cougs!"
Â
CCU Softball goes on the road for the next three weekends starting with Black Hill State.
