The Lady Cougs took on the #1 team in the RMAC, Colorado Mesa University on Saturday afternoon, and dropped both games 7-0 and 14-3.

The Cougs faced Mesa's ace and the leading RMAC pitcher, Mackenzie Surface (20-4) in game one. Surface struckout 10 Cougars in seven innings, allowing only three hits. It was a tough game all around. The Mavericks hit three home runs and had eight hits. The Cougars struggled on offense.
Jennie Winston went 2-2 with a double, and that was about the strongest hit all game for Christian.

Kelsea Sweeney came out with the loss (13-8), allowing only four hits, three runs-two earned, and four strikeouts.

Game two was similar in that Mesa's pitching was tough on the mound. Starting for the Mavericks was Kimbri Herring (12-0) who ranks 6
th in the RMAC. Herring had seven strikeouts. The Cougars were able to get some runs starting in the third inning. Christian was down 4-0 until
Baylee Johnson stepped up to the plate and battled at her at bat. After two balls, a strike, and seven fouls Johnson hit a home run to center field, scoring
Amy Edison and herself. CCU's final run was scored in the bottom of the fifth off another
Baylee Johnson swing, doubling to left center, scoring
Jennie Winston.

Unfortunately, Mesa went on two huge scoring innings in the fourth and fifth totaling 10 runs. The game ended in run-rule 14-3 in the fifth inning.
Baylee Johnson went 3-3 with one run and three RBI. Starting pitcher,
Sarah Probasco ended the game with the loss (5-7), allowing 10 hits, six runs-four earned, and four strikeouts.

The Cougs will be back at Lakewood Park on Sunday, April 23
rd for games three and four against Colorado Mesa University. First pitch is at 11:00 AM.
