Game 1
The Cougars fell short by two runs in game three of their Chadron series. It ended 8-6 in the top of the seventh as CCU's defense made some crucial errors to help the Eagles score their winning runs.
Chadron scored one run in the first inning, and CCU scored two.
Charlotte Romero had the first hit with a double to right center, then
Baylee Johnson doubled down the left line, and Romero scored CCU's first run of the game.
Hayley Novacek stepped up to the plate and doubled to center field allowing
Baylee Johnson to score. Christian left three on base. After the first frame CCU led 2-1.
The second inning had Chadron scoring two more runs, and CCU with three. The Eagles hit a two RBI home run that tied up the game 2-2. CCU's fleet-footed
Hanna Farmer got on base with a single to second base.
Letty Valenzuela doubled to left field, and Farmer scored.
Baylee Johnson reached first by being hit by pitch.
Stephanie Day singled to right field, but then advanced to third on a fielding error by the Eagles right fielder. Valenzuela and Johnson scored. CCU had three runs and three hits and took the lead 5-3.
Both CCU and Chadron had runs in the third frame, and left two runners on base. Chadron had another home run RBI. With bases loaded, CCU's third baseman,
Letty Valenzuela hit her second double of the game.
Amy Edison scored and
Shelbie Day ran towards home, but was out on the play right field to first base to catcher who ran her down towards third. Christian led 6-4.
Chadron State tied the game up 6-6 in the top of the fifth where they hit their third home run of the game. The Cougars next three innings ended with four on base and three hits, no runs. The Eagles finished the game in the seventh with two more runs. CCU missed a fly ball in left field and a routine putout at first base. Chadron won 8-6.
Kenzie Mattey started on the mound for CCU, followed by
Sarah Probasco, and then
Kelsea Sweeney. Sweeney took the loss (11-5), throwing in the last two innings.
Game 2
CCU out-hit Chadron in game four 8-4, but the Eagles well-placed doubles scored the runs. The Eagles hit three doubles and a sac fly to score five runs. Both teams ended the game with six runners left on base.
Stephanie Day hit a home run to right center field in the bottom of the sixth inning allowing
Baylee Johnson to score also. The score was 3-2 going into the top of the seventh. Chadron had a 2 RBI double in the seventh to put them up 5-2. Christian battled in the bottom of the last inning, but ended the game with three quick putouts.
Kelsea Sweeney started on the mound and threw 6.2 innings, allowing four hits, five runs, five walks, with three strikeouts.
