The Women's Basketball team picked up their third conference win after an exciting game on the road against Western State Colorado University. The game was won by a single point, with a score of 58-57. Both teams had similar conference records coming in to the game, CCU sporting 2-6 and WSCU holding 3-6.
The Cougars got the first two points of the game, but the Mountaineers came out on top at the first end of the quarter with a four point lead, 17-13.
CCU again put up the first points of the second quarter, and outscored Western 17-16 to put the score at halftime 33-30 in favor of the home team.
Jordan Baer led the Cougars at the half with 10 points.
Starting off the second half strong,
Haley Shaner hit a three pointer only a few moments in to tie up the game 33 all. After the lead was passed back and forth, both teams were tied up with 45 points at the end of the quarter.
Coming into the fourth quarter, the Cougars yet again grabbed the first bucket. Much like the third quarter, the lead was traded between the teams numerous times. With less than two minutes remaining, the Cougars had the advantage with a one-point lead. Hoping to take the lead, the Mountaineers called a timeout with 30 seconds left in the game. The Cougar defense stayed strong and got the rebound off of a missed layup to take the win.
Jordan Baer racked up another double-double to lead the team with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
Haley Shaner brought in 18 points after an impressive showing from the three-point line, going 4-5.
The win gives CCU a conference record of 3-6, and an overall record of 5-9. The next game will tip-off at 5:30pm on January 13
th, at Colorado Mesa University.
