CCU Women's Basketball defeated New Mexico Highlands 75-46 on Saturday night in what could be called a landslide victory.
The Cougars led after the first half 36-18. Their first half against New Mexico Highlands could be considered their strongest half of any game this season. CCU shot 45% from the field and 56% from three. The Cowgirls struggled on offense and defense as they shot 30% FG and only 11% from downtown. NMHU also totaled 10 turnovers in the first two quarters, giving the Cougs a huge advantage on offense. CCU junior
Jordan Baer was unstoppable as she went 5-9 FG, 3-4 3FG, and 2-2 FT scoring a total of 15 points. It was a total team effort from the Cougs and there was an excitement on the court that couldn't be stopped. CCU was not going to let go of their momentum.
The turnovers continued for Highlands, and the Cougars continued to score. With one minute left in the third quarter CCU had a 27-point lead 57-30. CCU's game plan consisted of outside shooting, and it was lethal against the Cowgirls. The Cougs went 8-17 from three at 47%.
Jordan Baer had a career game high of 26 points. Baer also had five steals and nine rebounds, with three assists.
Sarah McGinley scored 17 points shooting 7-10 FG, 1-2 3FG, and 2-2 FT.
Savannah Cox, now in the starting point guard role, scored seven points with three assists and four steals.
Coach Laster remarked "Our defense was really strong together tonight and I though
Jordan Baer got us off to a great start. Also Sarah and Haley did a great job of facilitating offensively and handling the basketball. But I think our defense was consistent and gave us the win overall"
