After traveling down to Colorado Springs, the Cougars took the loss in four to UC Colorado Springs. The last time the teams met, Colorado Christian took the win in four. After tonight's game, the teams have matching conference records of 8-5.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The first set was an exciting one offensively, as both teams hit their match high in kills and percentage. The Cougars with 16 and .333, and the Mountain Lions with 18 and .389. The set was a close one, with leads of only 1 or 2 points until the final third. The teams then traded offensive
Set two was off to a rough start for Colorado Christian, after the Mountain Lions earned the first 7 points and never gave up the lead. The Cougars were able to rally back, but unable to close the gap completely and lost 25-21.
Coming out swinging in set three, the Cougar offense played a cleaner game to give them the upper hand and a lead as much as 10 at one point. But as five point run from the Mountain Lions midway through the set forced a Colorado Christian timeout, even though they were up 19-13. Finishing out strong, the Cougars came away with the win with a final score of 25-18.
Although the Cougars offense played consistent the set before, in set four the unforced errors were high. UC Colorado Springs jumped on a 4-0 lead to start the set, and were able to go on a couple long runs to push their lead. Colorado Christian fought back but was unable to take the win, and lost set four 25-17 to end the match.
MATCH LEADERS: Leading the Cougars in kills was Ashley Drye with 14. Also in double digits included Cali Bahnsen with 12, and Jacey Johnson with 10. Leading the Cougars in percentage for the second night in a row was Hope Baldrica with .385, and also landed 2 solo blocks. Leading the Cougars in digs was Mariela Gonzalez with 13, and Jacey Johnson with 10.
WHAT'S NEXT: The loss gives the Cougars an overall record of 10-12, and an RMAC record of 8-5. Hosting their next games, Colorado Christian will kick off homecoming weekend on October 19th against Black Hills State at 7pm for Favorite Professor Night, and Senior Night on October 20th against South Dakota School of Mines at 5pm.
