After a quick match, Colorado Christian took the win against Fort Lewis in three straight sets.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Earning their lead early on, the Cougars went on a 6 point run after the teams were tied at 3 to go up 9-3. The offense caught fire and did not quit, hitting a match high of .389 after 18 kills. Colorado Christian took set one by 8, 25-17. Â
With Christa Tucker on the serving line, the Cougars jumped on an early lead again after nine straight points to go up 15-3. Tucker finished with 3 aces on the match. The Skyhawks offense was unable to get going, hitting negative in set two. Colorado Christian took advantage and continued to chip away at their lead, taking the set by 16 points, 25-9. The set was closed out with back to back kills from Kaylee Rogers.
Yet again Colorado Christian jumped on an early seven point lead. However the Fort Lewis offense bounced back from set two and began to play a cleaner game, putting the pressure on. But the Cougars offense stepped up and hit a match high of 21 kills. Closing out the match strong, Colorado Christian earned their last seven points off of kills. Â Â
MATCH LEADERS: Leading the Cougars in kills was a tie between Katie Henry and Ashley Drye, tallying 11 each. Leading in percentage was Hailey Ferguson with .500. The 51 kills came thanks to Kylee Wurster with 42 assists in just three sets. Mariela Gonzalez also had impressive numbers with 19 digs, averaging 6.3 per set. Â
WHAT'S NEXT: The win gives the Cougars an overall record of 9-11, and a conference record of 7-4. Hitting the road for their next game, the team will head down the road to Colorado School of Mines on Friday, October 12th for a rematch against the Orediggers.
