Cougars Claw Past Texas A&M International

SALT LAKE CITY – The Cougars are coming home a winner.

In their final road game to start the season, Colorado Christian came away with a 73-66 win against Texas A&M International.

The contest was the second of two games at Westminster College's Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Despite an early lead by Texas A&M International, the Cougars led a vast majority of the first two quarters. Jordan Baer led the way during the opening 20 minutes by scoring 16 points. Colorado Christian held a lead as large as 11 points (31-19) just before the midway points of the second quarter.

The Cougars eventually took a 39-36 lead into the locker room. During that opening frame, Colorado Christian hit five of their 12 shots from behind the arc in building their edge.

As the third and fourth quarter unfolded, the Cougars continued to hold their lead. They got their advantage as big as 14 points (64-50) with just under seven minutes left. The Dust Devils made things interesting. Using a 16-5 run, Texas A&M International cut their deficit to 69-66 with just over 30 seconds left.

After a Dust Devil timeout, Marie Tsoungui hit a pair of free throws then after an empty offensive possession by Texas A&M International which resulted in a steal by Sarah McGinley and ensuing lay-up the game was all but over.

COUGAR LEADERS: Baer tied her career high with a 26-point contest. Brooke Zimmerman tallied a team best 10 rebounds.

For the second straight game, Olivia Christy scored in double digits with a 10-point afternoon. She hit three of her four attempts from behind the arc
