Deep Shooting Effort Propels Regis

LAKEWOOD, CO – It was a second half barrage from behind the arc the spelled trouble for the Cougars during the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's opening weekend.

As league play began Regis used a strong effort from behind the arc to post an 84-67 win against Colorado Christian on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED: A solid first 20 minutes from both teams saw the lead switch hands twice while being tied on four occasions. Each team hovered around the 50 percent shooting mark in the frame as Regis went into the locker room in front 37-33.

As the second half began the Rangers long range game made the difference. The defending RMAC tournament champions hit five of their first six three-pointers to start the frame. With 12:21 left in the contest, Regis held a double digit lead (60-45) and never relented.

Regis hit 10 of their 16 shots from three-point range in the last half as they hit 60 percent (15-for-25) of their field goal attempts to close out the contest.

Jarrett Brodbeck led the salvo for the visitors as he hit all but two of his long range attempts en route to his 28-point evening.

COUGAR LEADERS: Stefan Hackethal had a team best 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting in 25 minutes. He made three shots from behind the arc during his outburst. Braxton Tucker (12) and Justin Engesser (11) each scored in double figures. Tucker also had team highs in rebounds (7) and assists (5).
