The Cougars experienced a pair of firsts today – their first away conference game and their first RMAC loss of the season. Colorado Christian travelled down the road to Colorado School of Mines for a 3pm game, and took the loss with a final score of 36-71.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The game was off to a slow start for the Cougars, as the Orediggers got an early lead with a 9-0 run. Mines continued to chip away at their lead until they were up by 17 in the first quarter, but Colorado Christian was able to shorten the difference to 9 going into the second quarter with a score of 14-23.
The second quarter was another slow start offensively for the team, as the Cougars only got up 8 points. Mines had a 20 point advantage of 42-22 to close out the half.
With the offense still not finding their niche, the Cougars scored a total of 14 points in the second half. Their defense however improved and they held the Orediggers to their lowest scoring quarter in the 4th with 9.
GAME LEADERS: The leading scorer for the Cougars was
Sarah McGinley with 9, followed by
Davenport Brantley with 8.
Brooke Zimmerman led the team with 7 rebounds.
UP NEXT: The loss gives the Cougars an overall record of 5-5, and a conference record of 3-1. The team will travel south tomorrow to play at UC Colorado Springs at 1pm for their last game before the new year.
