The Cougars displayed a knockout performance on Sunday afternoon as they defeated Fort Lewis College 11-3 and 16-6 in the third and fourth games of the series. CCU Softball remains undefeated in conference at 8-0 and 15-1 overall.
The Cougar at-bats were unstoppable. CCU finished the day batting .429% with 21 runs, 27 hits, 27 RBI, 3 doubles, and 5 home runs. But the highlight of the day came in the first game, fifth inning when
Stephanie Day hit her second grand slam of the weekend. Her first grand slam was in game one in the top of the seventh. Day finished the series batting .500% 7-14, with 8 runs, 2 homers, and 12 RBI. But wait there's more….CCU had three grand slams in the series! The final grand slam was by junior
Carly Perry in the last game in the third inning. Perry totaled 5 RBI over the weekend.
Back to Sunday's games, CCU stayed consistent and never faltered. The Skyhawks struggled on offense and defense allowing Christian to mix in players in different positions and get different looks. In the final game of the series the Cougars launched four consecutive home runs starting in the second inning with
Alyssa Hanks (3 RBI), then
Alex Garlock (RBI), and in the third inning
Shelby Fusich (2 RBI), and
Carly Perry's grand slam (4 RBI). Fort Lewis threw in four pitchers to try and stop the Cougs, but CCU ended the game in run rule 16-6.
Kenzie Mattey threw the first game of the day and lowered her ERA down to 1.24. She remains undefeated at 9-0.
Jennifer Romero threw the second game of the day, a full five innings, and takes her 6
th win of the season (6-1).
