The CCU Softball team headed over to Golden to play the Orediggers of Colorado School of Mines on Saturday, April 28
th. The doubleheader began at 12pm, and ended with a split on the day after both teams took a game of their own.
Game 1: W 2-0
The Cougars took game one with a score of 2-0, after getting a single run in the 1
st and again in the 2
nd.
Stephanie Day came in as the third batter with two outs on the board, and hit a homerun in the top of the 1
st to score the first run of the game.
The second run for the Cougs came in the 2
nd, after
Alyssa Hanks singled and was immediately followed by a double from
Shelby Fusich to bring her home and make the score 2-0. This would be the last run of the game.
A battle between pitchers took place throughout the rest of the game, Mines only allowing three hits and CCU only allowing five.
Kenzie Mattey struck out seven Orediggers, earning her way to her 22
nd win of the year.
Game 2: L 8-0
Coming back ready to play, the Orediggers took over game 2 and won in only five innings. The final score was 8-0. They brought in 3 runs in the 1
st, one in the 2
nd, another in the 3
rd, two in the 4
th, and sealed the deal with one more in the 5
th.
CCU snagged four hits throughout the game after four singles. Two came from
Charlotte Romero, and one a piece from
Carly Perry and
Shelbie Day.
The split on the day gives the Cougs an overall record of 39-10, and an RMAC record of 29-7. The teams will face off again on Sunday, April 29
th with a doubleheader beginning at 11am.
