Day One Split with the Orediggers

The CCU Softball team headed over to Golden to play the Orediggers of Colorado School of Mines on Saturday, April 28th. The doubleheader began at 12pm, and ended with a split on the day after both teams took a game of their own.

Game 1: W 2-0

The Cougars took game one with a score of 2-0, after getting a single run in the 1st and again in the 2nd.

Stephanie Day came in as the third batter with two outs on the board, and hit a homerun in the top of the 1st to score the first run of the game.

The second run for the Cougs came in the 2nd, after Alyssa Hanks singled and was immediately followed by a double from Shelby Fusich to bring her home and make the score 2-0. This would be the last run of the game.

A battle between pitchers took place throughout the rest of the game, Mines only allowing three hits and CCU only allowing five. Kenzie Mattey struck out seven Orediggers, earning her way to her 22nd win of the year.

Game 2: L 8-0

Coming back ready to play, the Orediggers took over game 2 and won in only five innings. The final score was 8-0. They brought in 3 runs in the 1st, one in the 2nd, another in the 3rd, two in the 4th, and sealed the deal with one more in the 5th.

CCU snagged four hits throughout the game after four singles. Two came from Charlotte Romero, and one a piece from Carly Perry and Shelbie Day.

The split on the day gives the Cougs an overall record of 39-10, and an RMAC record of 29-7. The teams will face off again on Sunday, April 29th with a doubleheader beginning at 11am.
