Game Recap: Softball |

Second Day Split

Taking the field for their second day at Regis University, CCU split the day but lost their first conference series. The first game of the day was taken by the Rangers to seal the series, with a final score of 4-2. The Cougars however did not give up after the defeat and came back to win game four, 6-4.

Game 1:
The Cougars, normally getting on the board early on, were unable to score until snagging one in the 4th inning. Regis brought in two runs in the 2nd, taking an early lead.

CCU got on the board when Hanna Farmer walked, then stole second. She was advanced to third after Stephanie Day grounded out, and the next batter, Carly Perry, brought Farmer home after hitting a single. RU however matched the Cougars one run, and then took another in the 5th, making the score 4-1.

The last run of the game came from CCU in the top of the 6th, after Hanna Farmer scored again. Looking very similar to the first time around, Farmer singled, stole second, but this time Stephanie Day singled to bring her home.

The RU defense held strong in the 7th inning, facing three batters and forcing three outs to win game three with a final score of 4-2.

Kenzie Mattey pitched the first 4 innings and had four strikeouts. Sarah Probasco came in to face the final 6 batters, allowing two hits but no runs.

Game 2:
Although the series was already claimed, the Cougars weren't going to give up in game four. The first few innings saw both teams going neck and neck, matching runs with 1, 0, and 2.

Stephanie Day stepped up to the plate and hit her 8th homerun of the season, to set the tone for the rest of the game. The Rangers tied the game in the bottom of the 1st by bringing in one run of their own.

The next run for CCU came in the 3rd, which was scored from another home run. This time it was from Amy Edison, her third this year. Shelbie Day got the second run of the inning, after hitting a triple and then being brought home from a Stephanie Day single. Yet again, Regis returned the favor and scored two runs as well in the 3rd.

Taking the lead in the 4th, CCU brought home Carly Perry after she singled, advanced to third after the next two batters grounded out, and scored from a single from Amy Edison. This time, the Rangers were unable to match the Cougars inning. This again happened in the 5th, where CCU got one more run and RU was held to none. The run was thanks to Charlotte Romero hitting a single, then advancing on a single from Alex Garlock, and was brought home from Jennie Winston.

Regis snagged another run in the 6th, but the Cougars responded in the 7th with another run to make the score 6-4. Stephanie Day walked, stole second, advanced to third when Carly Perry singled, and scored off of another single from Alex Garlock. Not wasting any time in the 7th, CCU faced only three Regis batters and caught three fly balls in a row to finish the game.

Jennifer Romero started on the mound for the Cougars and pitched the first 3 innings, throwing 4 strikeouts. Kenzie Mattey came in for the remainder of the game, and had 3 strikeouts and only one run.

After this weekend, the Cougars are now 32-7 overall, and 22-4 in conference. With only one home series left, CCU will host their senior weekend on April 15th and 16th as they host Adams State University at Lakewood Park.
