Thanks to a record breaking 15 3's, Colorado Christian opened up their weekend with a win over the Trailblazers of Dixie State University with a final score of 78-61. The previous single game three point record was from back in 2013 when the Cougars had 12 in a single game against Regis.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The game started out as a close battle, as the teams traded offensive blows. The Cougars sealed the upper hand going into the second quarter after a three pointer from
Sarah McGinley with 4 seconds left to put them up 22-20.
The battle continued going into the second quarter, but Colorado Christian pulled away near the end of the half by as much as 12 points. However the Bison retaliated with their own 3 pointer with 4 seconds left to finish the half – the Cougars up by 7, 43-36. At the end of the first half
Sarah McGinley was leading both teams with 19 points.
Jordan Baer was also in the double digits with 11.
Coming into the second half, the Cougars were the first ones on the board after a three from
Sarah Holt to put them up by 10. The game stayed pretty consistent between the two teams, leaving the score at 62-54 going into the final quarter.
The fourth quarter saw Colorado Christian stepping up their game defensively and holding the Trailblazers to just 7 points. Sealing the win with their 15 3's, the Cougars took the win by 17.
GAME LEADERS: Leading the Cougars in points tonight was
Sarah McGinley with 24, after landing 6 from behind the arc. She also notched 5 assists, 6 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Next in line was
Jordan Baer with 17 points and rebounds, followed by
Sarah Holt with 13 points. Holt tied her career high of threes in a game with three. Also with three threes tonight was
Madison Price.
Davenport Brantley led the Cougars in assists with 7.
UP NEXT: The win gives the Cougars an overall record of 8-8, and a conference record of 6-4. Colorado Christian will host their next game tomorrow night against the Griffins of Westminster at 5pm.
