LAKEWOOD, CO – A late spurt was all Adams State needed.
Down the stretch the Grizzles pulled away to break open a tight contest and post a 73-63 victory against Colorado Christian.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Colorado Christian scored the contest's first six points and continued to hold the lead until Adams State took a 16-15 edge with 9:59 left until halftime. The visitors didn't give-up their lead the rest of the frame as the Grizzles went into the locker room ahead 31-28.
As the second half unfolded the Grizzles continued to hold the advantage and eventually built their edge to 50-43. However, an undaunted Colorado Christian squad battled back. Collin Huun hit a pair of foul shots with just under five minutes left to knot the game at 54-54. On the Cougars following possession Huun hit another pair from the charity stripe as they took their first lead since the first half.
Adams State responded with a three-point play from Davere Creighton to retake the lead for good. The Grizzles methodically built their lead to double figures as the finished the game on a 19-9 scoring spurt.
COUGAR LEADERS: Justin Engesser and Braxton Tucker each fell one rebound short of a double-double as they scored 16 and 14 points respectively. Jeremiah Hanson tallied 12 points during his 36 minutes of action.
Engesser and Jake Hornick registered five and four assists respectively.

- Adams State held a plus-11 rebounding edge (46-35) which led them to 15 second chance points
- Both teams struggled from behind the arc as they went a combined 6-for-38 with the Grizzles making one three-pointer
- Down low the Grizzles notched a 46-26 edge for points in the paint
