Seniors Honored in 2019 Finale

LAKEWOOD, CO – After two failed attempts to play their final home game of the season because of snow, the Colorado Christian men's soccer team got that opportunity on the third attempt.

UCCS broke open the game late in the first half in posting a 4-1 victory against the Cougars on Tuesday afternoon.

Prior to the game the program honored the squad's four seniors as Zach Roberts, Jacob Loper, Ulises Garcia and Luke Gibson were playing their final collegiate soccer contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Cougars fell behind early as Adam Baldwin put UCCS on the scoreboard in the sixth minute. Undaunted the Colorado Christian offense pieced together a handful of opportunities over the next 15 minutes. In the 14th minute Liam Lakey found the back of the cage for his team leading fourth goal of the season. He teamed up with Loper on a nice give-and-go for the net-finder.

The home team had two more chances in-close to take the lead but Mountain Lions goalie Scott Jensen made two good saves to keep the score knotted at 1-1.

In the 32nd minute UCCS took the lead for good. Kolby Raineri put together a nice individual effort with a strike from 15 yards as the visitors went up 2-1. Less than six minutes later the Mountain Lions scored the final goal of the half off a corner kick which finished with an Igor O'Rear goal.

Most of the second half was played in back-and-forth fashion in the middle third of the field. Alex Vonholle scored his 10th goal of the season in the 70th minute to round out the scoring.
