Senior Celebrated; Cougars Cruise

LAKEWOOD, CO – Three and out.

Friday night's RMAC volleyball contest was a party. After celebrating the seniors to start the evening, the festivities continued for Colorado Christian as they powered their way to a 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-15) win against Westminster.

Prior to the match the squad celebrated Cali Bahnsen, Kaira Smith, Katie Henry, Veronica Nederend and Mariela Gonzalez.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Cougars raced out to a 10-3 lead in the first set and never relented in taking an early lead. Westminster never got closer than six points down the stretch. Colorado Christian hit a solid .283 during the frame led by Ashley Drye's six-kill, .667-hitting percentage.

Westminster kept things interesting during the opening points in the second frame before the Cougars laid the hammer down late. Leading 14-13, Colorado Christian won 11 of the last 14 points in the set to take a commanding lead.

The final set methodically went the Cougars way. Leading 8-6, the Cougars expanded their lead to 14-8 and forced the Griffins into a timeout. After the stoppage, the home team continued to press ahead as ran their lead to 20-8. The final outcome was never in doubt. During that final stanza, Colorado Christian notched a .382 hitting percentage in closing out the match.

COUGAR LEADERS: Drye lead the offensive effort with a 10-kill evening while posting a .389 hitting percentage. Bahnsen and Nederend each notched a nine-kill evening. Defensively, Mariela Gonzalez (18) and Christa Tucker (13) were stout along the back row.
