AUSTIN, TX – Colorado Christian closed out the weekend against Arkansas Fort Smith in the last game of the D2 Conference Challenge.
The Cougars once again started off strong, staying within striking distance for most of the first half. The second half was when Lady Lions started to pull away scoring 24 points in the third quarter and securing the 73-59 despite Colorado Christian outscoring them in the fourth quarter.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Cougars were neck and neck with the Lady Lions throughout most of the first quarter, with the two teams vying for the lead up until the Lady Lions went on an 11-2 run with five minutes left in the first to take a nine point lead.
The Cougars stayed on the heels of the Lady Lions well into the second, cutting the lead to as little as three points with four minutes left in the half. Marie Tsoungui led the team in the first half with eight points.
In a similar vein to the game last night, the Cougars fell behind big in the third quarter, with UA Fort Smith scoring 24 points, with 12 of them coming in the paint. The Cougars rebounded late in the third with a three point run to cut the lead to 20 and carry momentum into the fourth.
The Cougars outscored the Lady Lions in the fourth quarter, as they carried over the run from the third quarter to score the first six points of the fourth quarter. The hot streak brought the Cougars within ten points late in the fourth. UA Fort Smith recovered from their stumble and widened the gap once again to secure the 14 point win.
COUGAR LEADERS: Tsoungui led the team with 11 points, Lourdes Gonzalez was second on the team with nine. Brookelyn Hurlbut had six rebounds to lead the team. Brianna Pribble recorded three steals.
