LAKEWOOD, CO – The final game of the weekend featured Colorado Christian hosting UC Colorado Springs.
Both teams battled throughout, with the Cougars outscoring the Mountain Lions in three of the four quarters. This led to the Cougars cruising to their second conference win of the season by a score of 70-65.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The first quarter was the closest of the game, with the Mountain Lions scoring 15 points and the Cougars answering with 16 points of their own on 6-11 shooting from the field.
The second quarter was the poorest shooting quarter for the Cougars, shooting 38% from the field, the Mountain Lions took advantage and scored 20 points and taking a 35-29 lead into halftime.
Colorado Christian came out firing in the second half, with 22 points in the third quarter to bring them back to within one point of the Mountain Lions. Shooting 58% from the field and 50% from three.
The two teams stayed neck and neck through much of the fourth quarter, with the Cougars not taking a lead until there was 1:09 left in the game. The run came at the right time though as Colorado Christian scored the final five points of the game.
COUGAR LEADERS: Sam Nunez finds herself back on top of box score with 26 points, Lourdes Gonzalez, as consistent as ever had 15 points and Brookelyn Hurlbut scored 14. Hurlbut led the team with seven rebounds. Nunez had three more assists to lead the team.
STATS FROM THE GAME:
- After only scoring four points in the first half, Nunez caught fire in the second half scoring 22 points on 8-9 shooting and 3-3 from three point range.
- Colorado Christian dominated the fast break with 15 points
- Making the most of their opportunities the Cougars scored 14 off turnovers.
UP NEXT: The last game of 2019 will be on Friday, December 20, as the Cougars will travel to Regis University for a one game weekend before the New Year. Tip-off will be at 5:00 p.m.
