Late Scoring Surge Sinks the Cougars

DENVER- Colorado Christian looked to continue their winning way in a matchup vs. MSU- Denver.

The game was close throughout as the Cougars have continued to play solid basketball. A low scoring 4th quarter was ultimately the downfall with MSU-Denver escaping with a 58-54 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The game stayed close throughout, with the Roadrunners leading in scoring in the first and fourth quarters. The Cougars led in the second and third quarters in scoring.

Going into halftime, the Cougars had a one point lead with Sam Nunez and Brookelyn Hurlbut leading the team in scoring. The Cougars maintained the lead even with only 2-12 shooting from three point range.

The second half started with the Cougars leading by as many as six during the quarter and ended the quarter leading by two.

The fourth quarter saw the Cougars once again getting a five point lead, but a seven to zero run at the end of the game for MSU Denver sunk the Cougars in a four point loss.

COUGAR LEADERS: Nunez improved her scoring streak with 25 points in the loss. Hurlbut also scored 14. Hurlbut led the team with six rebounds, and Olivia Christy had four assists.

STATS FROM THE GAME:

  • Scored 15 points off turnovers
  • Scored four fast break points
  • Scored 18 points in the paint.

UP NEXT: The Cougars will be home next weekend for the first time in RMAC play, taking on the Colorado School of Mines on December 13, at 5 p.m.
