Cougars Close Out Day 2

Despite taking a tough loss earlier in the day, the Cougars were able to bounce back and take a big win of their own on day 2 of their Oklahoma tour. Colorado Christian fell to Fort Hays State University, but defeated Southern Nazarene University just a few hours later.

GAME 1 VS FHSU: L 4-11

Starting off their double header day with a loss, the Cougars lost to the Tigers of Fort Hays State University by 7. The Tigers started out the game strong, scoring 5 runs in the first inning. Colorado Christian got on the board in the third inning after Alex Garlock singled, advanced on a walk, took third after a single from Kendall Yasui, and was brought home by a sac fly from Stephanie Day.

The Cougars were able to score again in the fifth when they landed three runs. Garlock got it started again with a triple, Hanna Farmer was then right behind her on second after being walked and a stolen base. Yasui stepped up again and brought home Garlock while advancing Farmer to third. Day hit a single to score Farmer, giving Colorado Christian their second run of the inning. Day was then brought home after a double from Charlotte Romero to close out their runs for the game. At this point the Cougars were down by 6, 10-4.

The Tigers notched in one last run in the fifth to seal the win by 7, and the Cougars were unable to recover and get the ball going. Makena Martin was on the mound and took the loss to give her a 0-2 record.

GAME 2 VS SNU: W 12-6

Bouncing back from a loss earlier today, the Cougar were able to come out with the win against the Crimson Storm of Southern Nazarene by 6, with a final score of 12-6.
Southern Nazarene started out the game scoring a single run in the first – but Colorado Christian responded with 3 of their own. Hanna Farmer got to first after hitting a single, and Kendall Yasui reached first after being walked. Charlotte Romero then stepped up and hit a homerun to right field to bring them both home, giving the Cougars a 2 run lead.

The Crimson Storm responded in the third and scored 3 more runs to take the lead, but they were not able to keep it for long when Colorado Christian scored 4 to up their lead to 3 runs. Stephanie Day and Shelby Fusich were on base after being walked, but were both brought home after singles from Carly Perry and Jamie Romero. Caitlin McCarthy followed with another single to bring home Perry. Alex Garlock then reached first on an error, and Farmer was walked with bases loaded to bring home Romero.

The Cougars closed out their scoring with a big fifth inning when they scored 5 runs. Caitlin McCarthy got it started when she singled, and was brought home after a double from Hanna Farmer. Yasui then singled and stole second to put runners on second and third. Both runners were then scored after Day followed with another single and was advanced on the throw. Shelby Fusich then hit a homerun of her own to score the final two runs of the game.

Southern Nazarene scored one more run in the sixth but were unable to catch up to the Cougars offensive play. This gave the team their third win of the year, and a 2-1 start to their Oklahoma tour.

UP NEXT: Colorado Christian is now 3-3 overall and will compete in 2 of their 8 remaining games in Oklahoma tomorrow as they face Southwestern Oklahoma State University and East Central College.
