First Inning Fall

Playing against some tough competition for their fourth game of the Oklahoma marathon, the Cougars fell to #14 Tarleton State University. Tarleton had a strong first inning that Colorado Christian was unable to recover from, which gave them the win with a final score of 7-4.

Tarleton landed 5 runs in the first inning after a couple strong hits and errors. The Cougars were able to get out of the tough inning and scored a single run of their own in the first. Hanna Farmer got things rolling with a double, and was followed by Kendall Yasui reaching first after being walked. Farmer was then brought home after a single from Stephanie Day. Shelby Fusich followed with another single to bring home Yasui and close out the inning.

Landing single runs in the third and fourth, Tarleton continued to set themselves apart with their greatest lead of 5 halfway through the fourth inning. Colorado Christian landed another single run after Jamie Romero doubled to start off the inning, and was advanced on the throw. Caitlin McCarthy then brought her home with a single.

The Cougars were able to hold Tarleton the remainder of the game, and scored one more run in the sixth. Alex Garlock hit a triple to right center, and was brought home by a Yasui single.

Kenzie Mattey took the loss after pitching 6 innings to give her a record of 3-2.

UP NEXT: The loss gives Colorado Christian a record of 3-4 overall. The team will play their next couple games against Oklahoma Baptist University, who is now coached by the Cougars former Assistant Coach Sam Maples. The teams will play on Tuesday the 12th at 4pm and Wednesday the 13th at 1pm.
