Between the two UCO-OC Invitational Festivals Colorado Christian scheduled a couple games at Oklahoma Baptist University. Playing against their former assistant coach, the Cougars lost in a close one the first time around but came back for game two and won by 8 runs.
GAME 1 2/12/19 : L 4-3
The first few innings were quick for both teams, going scoreless and both teams playing well defensively. The Cougars were the first on the board and scored a couple runs in the fourth, thanks to a homerun from
Caitlin McCarthy that brought home
Jamie Romero who had just hit a single.
The Bison responded in the next inning, scoring all four of their runs in the fifth to take the lead. Colorado Christian scored one more run in the sixth after a double from
Jamie Romero, followed by a single from
Caitlin McCarthy. Romero was then brought home after a sac fly from
Alex Garlock to give the Cougars their third and final run.
Colorado Christian had 14 hits and Oklahoma Baptist only had 5, but was still able to come out with the win.
Jennifer Romero was on the mound and took her first loss of the year to give her a record of 0-1.
GAME 2 2/13/19 : W 9-1
Bouncing back after a close loss the day before, the Cougars closed out game two against the Bison with a bang. Oklahoma Baptist got in their only run of the game in the first inning. Colorado Christian also got a single run in the first inning,
Kacie Burger hit a double and was brought home by a
Stephanie Day single.
The Cougars scored again in the fourth, which all got going thanks to a pair of doubles from
Carly Perry and
Hanna Farmer.
Kendall Yasui then followed with a single, and
Kacie Burger was walked to load the bases. Day was also walked to score their second run and put them up 3-1.
In the fifth inning the Cougars landed another single run, after
Jamie Romero was walked and then was brought home by a ground out and a single from
Caitlin McCarthy. The big inning for Colorado Christian came in the sixth when the team scored 5 runs to seal the win. Yasui got the ball rolling after reaching on an error, stealing second, then brought home by a single from Burger. Day then reached first on a fielder's choice, followed by
Jamie Romero also reaching on a fielder's choice to load the bases.
Shelby Fusich was then walked which brought home Burger to score run number 2 of the inning.
Alex Garlock then grounded out but brought home Day. McCarthy then hit another single to bring home
Jamie Romero to close out the inning.
Makena Martin took her first win of the year, giving her a 1-0 record.
UP NEXT: The split against the Bison gives the Cougars an overall record of 4-5. The team will start Festival II of the UCO-OC Invitational tomorrow, February 14th as they play Southwestern Oklahoma State University at 12pm MST. The schedule changed due to the weather forecast, and has potential to change again. All updates will be found on the website as they come in.
