Valentine's Day Victory

Beginning the second round of the UCO-OC Invitational, Colorado Christian started out with a strong win over the Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State University with a final score of 10-2. The Cougars had 10 hits and 10 runs to seal the victory.

The Cougars kept it consistent to start the game, scoring single runs in the first few innings. In the first inning it came from Hanna Farmer – who singled, stole second, advanced to third thanks to a single from Kendall Yasui, and made it home on a throwing error from the catcher. The second inning run came from Carly Perry. Perry was walked, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and was brought home from a double from Caitlin McCarthy. The third and final single run came from Kendall Yasui after she was walked, stole second, advanced to third on a foul ball, and was brought home by a single from Stephanie Day.

SW Oklahoma notched in a couple single runs of their own in the third and fourth inning. But the Cougars responded and scored three runs in the fourth. Jamie Romero hit a sac bunt to advance her runners on first and second. McCarthy and Yasui brought the runners home after both hitting singles. The third and final run of the inning came when Kacie Burger was walked with the bases loaded.

Closing out the final two innings with two runs each, the Cougars gave themselves a comfortable lead. The fifth inning The fifth inning got started after a single from Charlotte Romero, which was followed by Shelby Fusich getting hit by the pitch. A sac bunt from Carly Perry and a sac fly from Jamie Romero and the first runner had scored. Fusich scored on the next play on a wild pitch.

The sixth inning got started thanks to singles from Farmer and Yasui, a sac fly from Burger, and a single from Day to bring both runners home. On the mound was Jennifer Romero, taking her first win of the year to give her a record of 1-1.  

UP NEXT: The win gives Colorado Christian a record of 5-5, and will continue their Oklahoma tour tomorrow as they play two out of their three remaining non-conference games. The Cougars will play Northwestern Oklahoma State University at 11am, followed by Newman University at 3pm.
