Rally Against Rangers

Making their win worth it, Colorado Christian sealed the win against Northwestern Oklahoma State University after an exciting comeback in the sixth and going into an extra inning. The Cougars defeated the Rangers 13-9 and had their most hits in a single game so far this year with 20.

The Cougars started out slow, going three up three down in the first inning. Taking advantage of an error, the Rangers scored a single run in the first. Setting a different tone in the second inning, Colorado Christian had bases loaded and zero outs after a double from Stephanie Day, and singles from Charlotte Romero and Alex Garlock. However Northwestern was able to stay strong and keep the Cougars from scoring, but had their own three up three down inning in the bottom of the second after all three batters grounded out.

Scoring a single run in the third, the Cougars had tied up the game after Kendall Yasui singled but advanced on an error, and was brought home from a single from Kacie Burger. Although Colorado Christian had two outs on the Rangers to start the bottom of the third, the Rangers were able to rally through and score three runs to take the lead again, 4-1.

Colorado Christian followed up with a two run inning in the fourth to shorten the difference. Jamie Romero started off the inning with a double, and was brought home right after thanks to a single from Caitlin McCarthy. McCarthy then advanced to second on a wild pitch, and thanks to a sac from Hanna Farmer made it to third. Burger then hit a triple to bring McCarthy home and finish out the inning for the Cougars.

Northwestern then took a strong lead in the bottom of the fifth to go up 6-3 and put the pressure on. However the Cougars were able to respond strongly and scored 4 runs in the top of the sixth to take the lead. The sixth inning got started with a pair of singles from McCarthy and Farmer, who were both brought home thanks to a big triple from Shelby Fusich. With two outs, Day stepped up and brought home Fusich with a single. Charlotte Romero was then hit by the pitch to put runners on first and second. With two outs and runners on, Carly Perry stepped up and hit a single to bring home Day to give the team the lead.

Responding to the pressure on their side this time, the Rangers were able to score a single run in the bottom of the seventh to tie up the game and take it to extra innings. Colorado Christian took advantage of the extra inning and had their strongest offensive inning yet, scoring 6 runs to take the win. With Burger placed on second for the extra inning, Day then reached first on an error. Charlotte Romero was then hit by the pitch again to load the bases. Garlock reached first on a fielder's choice as the Rangers got Burger out at home, but with a full count Perry hit a single to bring home Day. Jamie Romero was then walked with the bases loaded to bring home Charlotte Romero for their second run. McCarthy singled to follow and bring home Garlock. With two outs and bases loaded, Fusich was hit by the pitch to score Perry. The final runs for Colorado Christian came after a single from Kacie Burger to bring home the McCarthy and Jamie Romero. Northwestern was able to score 2 runs in the bottom of the eighth but could not come back after the Cougars strong inning.
