Seniors Finish Out Home Stretch

After honoring their five seniors playing in their final home game of their career at Colorado Christian, the Cougars fought but fell to Western Colorado by 7, 61-54. Coming into the game the teams were tied up with conference records of 10-8 and fighting for a tournament spot. 

HOW IT HAPPENED: Playing disciplined defense on both sides, the first quarter started out with numerous forced turnovers from both sides. At the end of the first quarter, the Cougars had the lead 12-10. With two thirds of the teams points, Jordan Baer led with 8. 

Starting out the second quarter with the first four points for both teams was Sarah McGinley, but with just under four minutes left the Mountaineers had tied up the game at 19's. From there Western took the lead going into the half, 27-23. At the half the Cougars were led by Jordan Baer with 10 points.

The third quarter saw Western increasing their lead by 3 to make the score going into the final quarter 40-33, which was just what they needed to take the win. 

Both having their best quarter, the teams scored 21 points each in the fourth. The Cougars were able to get the score within 2 points with a minute and a half left, but Western prevailed as Colorado Christian started fouling to slow the game down. The Mountaineers won by 7 with a final score of 61-54. 

GAME LEADERS: Leading the Cougars in scoring tonight was Jordan Baer with 13. Tied up with 6 a piece, Baer and Sarah McGinley led the teams in rebounds. 

UP NEXT: The loss gives Colorado Christian an overall record of 12-13 and an RMAC record of 10-9. The team will travel to Utah for their next pair of games against Westminster College and Dixie State on Friday, February 18th and Saturday, February 19th.
