Starting off day two of RMAC play by getting run ruled may have put a damper on the Cougars morale, but instead they bounced back to deal a run rule of their own.
GAME 1 VS DSU: L 0-11
Coming off of a tough loss to the Cougars the day before, the Trailblazers came back for their second game against Colorado Christian looking for revenge. It was a slow start for both teams, but a walk off grand slam in the bottom of the fifth put Dixie ahead to seal the run rule win, 11-0.
The Cougars only had three total hits in the game, tallying three singles in the first three innings. The Trailblazers pitching was playing lights out and shut down Colorado Christian. The Cougars were playing strong defense as well, but the big fifth inning from Dixie was unable to be stopped. Dixie notched in 2 runs in the first, a single in the fourth, and 8 runs after a walk off grand slam in the bottom of the fifth.
Kenzie Mattey took the loss on the mound to give her a record of 5-3.
GAME 2 VS ASU: W 10-2
Stepping into their last game of the day, the Cougars started out steady against the Grizzlies. The team scored a single run in the first after Hanna Farmer singled, advanced, then scored on an outfield error. The next four innings went quick as both teams were unable to score.
Taking the lead in the top of the sixth, Adams pulled ahead after scoring 2 runs to put them up 2-1. Colorado Christian did not let their lead last long and pulled out a 7 run inning to take the lead back and go up 8-2. It all got started with a pair of singles from Charlotte Romero and Shelby Fusich. McKenna Gordon came in to pinch run for Romero, and the runners were advanced after a sac bunt from Carly Perry. Alex Garlock then reached on a fielding error to load the bases for the Cougars. With a 2 RBI single, Caitlin McCarthy then brought home their first 2 runs of the inning. With the bases loaded again after Hanna Farmer walked, all the runners advanced to score their third run after a wild pitch. Kendall Yasui was then walked as well to load the bases yet again. Kacie Burger then reached first on a fielder's choice, getting McCarthy out at home. Stephanie Day then had a 2 RBI single to bring the Cougars lead to 4 runs. Back to back RBI singles from Charlotte Romero and Shelby Fusich brought home Burger and Day. Carly Perry then hit the third single in a row to load the bases with the Cougars up 8-2.
With a full count and bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth, Alex Garlock then hit a walk off double that brought home Fusich and Romero to win the game with a run rule. Colorado Christian sealed the win with the big sixth inning with a final score of 10-2.
Jennifer Romero took the win on the mound today after facing 24 batters and dealing 8 strikeouts. The win gives her an overall record of 3-1. Â Â
