The CCU Cougar track and field team traveled to the University of Colorado on Saturday to compete in the Colorado Invitational. Slightly more than halfway through their indoor season, the Cougs took on some of the strongest competition they'll face, lining up against some of Division II's best and a plethora of Division I opponents as well.

MEN: 

The men's squad found most of their success in the distance events, posting strong section results. Freshman Isaac Russo, who lead the Cougar cross-country team for much of their season, continued to progress and successfully navigate collegiate running in his first year. Russo won his mile section in a time of 4:22.08, the first such race for him this season. Not far behind Russo was sophomore transfer Nicholas Skinner getting his first taste of indoor action this year, he took second in the same section race in a time of 4:23.30. Junior Luke Bruns smoked his season best time in the men's 3,000-meter run that he set last week in Golden, running 9:21.11, over 15 seconds faster than his previous top mark.

WOMEN:

The women's side of the meet also resulted in a noteworthy marks, largely from the senior runners, in short and long distances. Senior Cydne Hitchings ran in her first competitive 400-meter dash in Boulder and posted a time of 1:02.83, while junior Shae Wyckoff won her heat and set a new season best time in the 400 in a time of 1:05.56. Anna Spykstra finished 27th overall in the 60-meter hurdles, coming up just shy of her season best mark, crossing the line in 9.64 seconds. Making her indoor debut in the 5,000-meter race, senior Mandee Middleton finished 9th overall in a time of 18:32.41, finishing behind only one division II opponent, with the rest of the top eight being compiled of division I and unattached runners.

No extended rest for the Cougars as they will be competing again next week in Colorado Springs when they take part in the Colorado Running Company Mountain Lion Invite hosted by UCCS. Full meet details and schedule can be found here.
