Making sure they finished the Desert Stinger in style, the Cougars won their final game of the weekend over Humboldt State with a final score of 11-1. The team bounced back after a pair of losses on Friday, and having both their games on Saturday canceled due to rain.
Starting off the game the Cougars got in a quick few runs at the top of the inning.
Hanna Farmer got the ball rolling with a single, immediately followed by
Kendall Yasui with a single of her own.
Kacie Burger added a third single in a row, and was advanced on the throw which scored Farmer.
Stephanie Day then stepped up and grounded out to second base but scored Yasui to make the run count 2.
Charlotte Romero finished it out with another single, scoring Burger to make the score at the end of the inning 3-0.
The Cougars held the Jacks for the first couple innings, only allowing them to score one in the third after scoring one of their own. The next couple innings were quiet for both teams, but Colorado Christian brought it back in the top of the sixth and added 4 runs. It all got started when
Stephanie Day stepped up and hit her first homerun of the year. Liking what she saw,
Jamie Romero got her continued the trend and got her first homerun of the year with a single runner on. Making it a three-peat,
Caitlin McCarthy tallied her first homer of the year as well, giving the Cougars three homeruns in a single inning.
Colorado Christian started the seventh inning with their first two runners out, but they did not let this stop them from scoring three runs.
Stephanie Day was walked and
Charlotte Romero singled to advance day to third.
Carly Perry then hit a single to score Day.
Shelby Fusich stepped up and was hit by the pitch, which loaded the bases for the Cougars.
Jamie Romero then singled to bring home Romero and Perry, closing out the inning and giving the team a grand total of 11 runs.
Kenzie Mattey pitched all seven innings for the Cougars to take the win, giving her a record of 1-1 after the weekend.
UP NEXT: The win gives Colorado Christian a 1-2 record to start their season. The team travels home for a few days before they hit the road again for Oklahoma to play ten games in the span of nine days.
