Beginning their weekend on the road with a win, Colorado Christian defeated Fort Lewis for the second time this season. This time however with a more comfortable 11 point win, vs. 6 points the first time around.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Getting the Cougars on the scoreboard first was
Marie Tsoungui, who hit a three with a little over a minute into the game. The Skyhawks though got the final bucket of the quarter with a three of their own, giving them the lead with a score of 15-12.
Although Fort Lewis was the first to score in the second quarter and take a 5 point lead, the game remained tight throughout the rest of the first half. Going into the locker rooms, the Skyhawks had the advantage by just 1 point, 28-27. Leaders at the half were
Marie Tsoungui with 7 points and
Jordan Baer with 7 rebounds.
Starting out with a 6 point run, the Skyhawks jumped on a 7 point lead to start the second half. After just a few minutes, the Cougars took the lead and never gave it back. Going into the final quarter Colorado Christian was up by 4, 42-38.
The fourth quarter started out slow offensively for both teams, until halfway through the Cougars started to pull away with their lead. With just under a minute left they had their greatest lead of 15. At the end of the game they sealed the win by 11 with a final score of 59-48.4
GAME LEADERS: Leading the team in points tonight was
Jordan Baer with 14, followed by
Madison Price with 12. Baer was also the leading rebounder, matching her points and bringing in 14 rebounds.
UP NEXT: The win gives the Cougars an overall record of 10-12 and an RMAC record of 8-8. Traveling to Alamosa for their next game, Colorado Christian will play Adams State on Saturday. February 9th at 5:30pm.
